Time for another jolly divers outing to Egypt. We shall be arranging 1 and 2 week trips, so you can go for just the 1st week, just the 2nd week, or for both weeks (highly recommended !).

Places will be limited (not sure of exact numbers yet), so get your name down asap to avoid disappointment.

We had an excellent time last year - see photos

CLUB HOLIDAY TO EGYPT DAHAB!!! 5th to 19th June 2008

Dahab Trip

As you all know the club likes to organise several trips abroad each year to various destinations and the Red Sea is always a popular one because of the spectacular dive sites which are home to incredible coral beds and aquatic life.

This year we have decided to diversify a little and rather than travelling to our usual destination of Sharm El Sheikh, we are organising a trip to Dahab, a small former bedouin fishing town situated on the southeast coast of the Sinai Peninsula in Egypt and approximately 50 miles northeast of Sharm El Sheikh.

Certain old timers would describe Dahab as Sharm 20 years ago. A lot less commercial, but a lot more chilled out, Dahab hosts some of Egypt’s most spectacular dive sites including the Blue Hole and The Canyon to name but a few.

By day, water temperatures tend to be 1 - 2 degrees cooler than in Sharm El Sheikh (approximately 21 degrees at the moment) and the majority of diving is shore based, although we will be organising a trip to the SS Thistlegorm, a British armed Merchant Navy ship sunk in 1941 and the Ras Mohammed National Park by boat and can organise additional boat trips to Gabr El Bint and other surrounding destinations (where a 6m whale shark was spotted last week!!!) all for an additional supplement to cover the costs of the boat and the crew if there is sufficient interest.

By day, if you don't want to dive, you can catch some rays, take a walk around the souk or even learn to windsurf as Dahab is also one of the World's top windsurfing destinations.

By night, there are numerous quaint little bistros situated along the beach front that you can eat at fairly inexpensively, offering a selection of cuisines including freshly caught fish and seafood.

The price for a 7 night stay which includes flights, bed and breakfast is £425 per person.

The price for a 14 night stay which includes flights, bed and breakfast is £580 per person

The price for a 5 day dive package is 175 EUROS per person payable to the dive center (we thought it better for people to sort out with them how much diving they want)

If you would like to dive the Thistlegorm there is a supplement of £120.00 per person. Thistlegorm is a three dive day and divers normally leave Dahab at around 11pm the night before, arriving at the dive site at approximately 9am the following morning. Dive 1 normally begins at the stern of Thistle which sits at approximately 30m deep. During dive 2, divers penetrate the wreck where you will see the remnants of the ship's extensive cargo including amongst other things, motorcycles. Dive 3 is normally at the famous Shark Yolande reef in the Ras Mohammed National Park.

Boat dives to Gabr El Bint and other surrounding destinations, which are not dive sites normally available to visitors to Sharm El Sheikh are available at a supplement of £15.00 per day per person with a £4 supplement for lunch.

Please also note that all divers are responsible for ensuring they have their own travel and dive insurance and the club can't be responsible for changes or amendments to the travel, diving or accommodation arrangements. Please let us know ASAP AS WE ONLY HAVE A FEW PLACES LEFT!! You can also think about doing a course with us while you are away with us as this would be the perfect time!
