Two students contacted us with a view to complete their PADI Advanced Open Water Qualification so we agreed to trek down to Vobster Quay Inland Diving Centre to do three of their five dives.

The day started for the team leaving Sussex at 6am, this was to enable us to reach the centre for around 9am. The trip down was fine and were lucky not to encounter too much traffic allowing us to reach Vobster on time.

As you can see from the photos below it was a little misty at the start and overcast but thankfully the weather got much better as the day progressed.

Once the kit had been assembled the students went over the knowledge reviews with the instructor who was the instructor for the day.

Due to the coolness of the water the students dived in full length 7mm wetsuits, with 3mm shortie over the top, gloves, boots and hoods. Once in the water it was very stuitable and the water temperature was not an issue for the dives.

The day was really successful and the students learnt a lot from the experience. We all managed to get back to Sussex in time for dinner (thanks to the terrible traffic on the M27).

The First Dive

This consisted of the Deep Dive where the students completed 2 simple tasks on the surface, they then completed the tasks depth and compared the difference in time taken to complete the tasks during their surface interval.

The Second Dive

After a surface interval and a change of tanks we then jumped back in to do our second dive which we were then focussing on Peak Performance Buoyancy.

This involved the students doing more advanced buoyancy skills underwater than those demonstrated on their Open Water course.

The Third Dive

The final dive of the day consisted of a Wreck Dive where the students recorded a number of items from the dive such as the condition of the wreck, it’s position using the compass & depths.

The students demonstrated the skills on a boat wreck in the quay, then they moved and investigated a plane wreck.
